In 2016 VA were commissioned by the incoming CEO to support the coming together of the jointly owned shipping activities and relevant assets of Wilh. Wilhelmsen ASA and Wallenius Lines. It unites their ownership of the shipping and logistics businesses of EUKOR Car Carriers, WWL AS and American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier, in the new entity Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

VA are also involved with supporting the recruitment and development of a high performing executive team for the new company. This was the first part of a company-wide cultural transformation as the company went for an IPO.

This has been a very challenging and complex project to:

  • Enable fast decision making – fewer layers
  • Enable a flexible and scalable organisation
  • Create more standardisation and simplified processes
  • Maximise benefit of scale as one company

VA have been working with the CEO and his team using a model of systemic team coaching to create a highly effective leadership team, as the start point for a wider change in the business, including a redefinition of purpose and goals, cultural compass, systems and processes. This naturally includes a reduction in headcount and upturn in efficiency.

This is a current work in progress and has also led to VA supporting the human capital part of the company-wide transformation alongside the more technical aspects of the change, and work with each executive team member to generate strong and agile leadership teams at this next level.
