VA has been working in partnership with the Travis Perkins Groups for three years to deliver an inspirational, high impact leadership programme. Travis Perkins Group is a national retailer which consists of 17 industry leading brands, 1,900 outlets and more than 24,000 employees in the UK and Ireland. Its brands include Travis Perkins, Wickes, Tool Station and Keyline.

The vision of the CEO is to double the size of the business and increase turnover from millions to billions. To achieve this, the business has identified the need to increase leadership capacity, with senior managers/leaders being innovative and creative, enabling performance in others, with the ability to drive commercial and culture change within the organisation.

Senior Manager Development Programme

VA has worked with the Group Leadership Training function to design a 6-month, multi modular leadership programme that is playing a fundamental role in developing outstanding leadership capacity. The programme’s core building blocks are self-awareness as a leader, coaching and managing performance, leading change, innovation, creating high performance teams and resilience.

The programme is marketed by the central Group Leadership Training function. Demand for the programme is driven by its perceived relevance to individual businesses and its ability to deliver a real return on investment at business unit level. It is delivered 3 times a year and its reputation is so strong that demand for places is significantly outstripping supply. The CEO describes the SMDP as the ‘Crown Jewels’ of development programmes within the organisation and to date it has delivered extraordinary results.
